Supporting a "Sweet September" at Citymeals on Wheels

Year round, Zabar's supports Citymeals on Wheels, but this month even more is in the works! Citymeal's Sweet September brings more support for their programs of preparing and delivering meals for our homebound, elderly neighbors. 

Shop online for Zabar's Babka and $1 of every sale will be donated to fund meals at Citymeals on Wheels.

Citymeals on Wheels provides a continuous lifeline of nourishing meals and vital companionship to New York City’s homebound elderly. Each year, Citymeals prepares and delivers over 2 million weekend, holiday and emergency meals for more than 18,000 of our frail aged neighbors.

100% of all public donations will be used entirely for the preparation and delivery of meals, thanks to the generosity of our Board of Directors, the City of New York, sponsors and other designated gifts.

Mrs. Zabar Changes Her Mind about Fruitcake…

I always thought there are ten hideous, fossilized fruitcakes that people re-gifted over and over, traveling the world. Then, our friends from Tiptree in England came to visit. They shared with me a tiny rectangle of their Tiptree Christmas Pudding (actually a cake, but dessert in the UK is called pudding), topped with a tiny rectangle of Somerdale Classic English Cheddar, a dollop of their chutney, and a teeny sprig of thyme.

The boozy cake’s sweetness paired perfectly with the sharpness of the cheese and the savory chutney. I’m hooked. However, I confess to substituting their Little Scarlet preserves in place of the chutney. ‘Tis the season for more sweetness. Please come shop at Zabar’s and pick up some of these holiday treats. You might change your mind too!
