Benefit Brunch for Landmark West! featuring Professor Andrew Dolkart
Brunch with Views...
Professor Andrew Dolkart, Director of Columbia University's Historic Preservation Program, will give us a tour of the views east and west from a private apartment at 565 West End Avenue over a Zabar's brunch. Professor Dolkart will discuss the historic buildings, monuments, and Riverside Park that can be seen from the original steel casement windows of the building. The Moderne apartment features an International-style open floor plan and rooms furnished with Aesthetic Movement and Arts & Crafts period furniture and decorative arts.
565 West End Avenue is an impressive, full-blown Art Deco building constructed on West End Avenue and was designed by architect H.I. Feldman in 1936. 565 was also the last building to be constructed on West End Avenue prior to World War II. It is located in the Riverside-West End Historic District, designated by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1989.
