Chef Andrew’s Gemelli with Sweet Italian Sausage is a relatively new recipe in the store and it’s flying off the shelves. It’s simple and classic with straightforward flavors that blend perfectly together.

In the amount of time it takes to boil a pot of water and cook the pasta the entire dish will be ready. We do sell all of the ingredients at Zabar’s however if you’re not up for cooking it yourself just stop by our deli counter and pick some up to take home with you.

Zabar's cafe can get pretty busy, creating a chaotic frenzy towards the soft serve ice cream line, but it's worth standing your ground in the crush of people for the silky smooth "The Lite Choice" frozen yogurts. The thick velvety low-fat, low-carb, organic, kosher yogurt comes in French vanilla and dark chocolate truffle flavors. This taster suggests you mix both in a cup. The flavors are not overpowering or sickly sweet, nor are they tart like other nearby frozen yogurts. The scoop is well portioned and exceptionally refreshing.

It's healthier than ice cream but feels no less indulgent. Local mom Danielle bought a cup for herself and her toddler son Henry, who proclaimed "I love this ice cream!"

All about the SodaStream:

Soda siphons are all the rage these days, but they actually have existed for over 100 years! The Sodastream company was founded in 1903 and the machines were popular with the British Royal Family from the start. Siphons for home use were introduced in the mid 1950's and continued to be popular in Europe and the UK, and now they have really taken off in the US as people want more control over what's in their food, and also as a way to reduce the waste they produce.

Making your own sparkling water and bubbly soft drinks at home reduces the number of plastic bottles to lug around, store, and then throw away. Plus, it takes only seconds and there's no clean up. You can make your drinks as fizzy as you like, and the all-natural flavoring possibilities are just about endless. The best iced coffee I’ve ever made

When I began working at Zabar’s one of the first houseware purchases I made was the Aerobie AeroPress. I remember meeting with Ann Zabar in her office and hearing her tout the merits of the AeroPress. She was learning the art of cupping from her father Saul Zabar, the king of coffee roasting (cupping is tasting coffee roasts, watch this video for more about cupping & Zabar’s coffee).

So into retirement went my French Press and into my daily coffee routine went the Aeropress. It makes hands down then best cup of espresso / coffee that I ever made at home. For around $30.

And in this heat wave, the only way I’m drinking it is iced. It’s delicious.

Here are my favorite ways to drink it:

1. Straight espresso – ok, this isn’t iced, but I just had to mention it.
2. Iced Coffee – for this I actually prepare coffee ice cubes. Seriously. I brew some Americano and freeze it in an ice cube tray. Once I have these I can just brew an Americano and have it iced, without being watered down anytime! (Watch the video below to see how an Americano coffee is made.)
3. Vietnamese Iced Coffee style – this is over ice and with a couple of tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk. I don’t water down the espresso into an Americano, I just pour it hot over a full glass of ice and the melting ice makes just the right coffee ratio.

A new recipe for Chilled Avocado Soup

This Chilled Avocado Soup is exactly what you want on a warm summer night. It's fantastic to prepare ahead of time and have a no fuss dinner. I've accomplished this two ways: 1) I've roasted the red peppers, corn and garlic at night in the oven, while it's cooler, and left them in the refrigerator until the next day when all I have to do it blend it all together and 2) I've cooked them on the outdoor grill. Both ways work; it's a spectacular, delicious soup. Serve it with a nice crusty bread. Thanks Andrew!
