This is what New Yorker's nosh on while waiting in line for broadway tickets at TKTS in Times Square, or sharing a Sunday afternoon in Central Park's Sheep Meadow. Two silky lox and cream cheese sandwiches on kettle-boiled hearth-baked New York bagels, Zabar's famous cinnamon rugelach, and an I Love NY cookie. This is the perfect walk down memory lane if you've been away from New York City and feel a little homesick. Best of all, the Simply New York gift set comes with a gorgeous signature Zabar's canvas tote. Nothing says "I LOVE NY" like this great gift set...
Ok, I know that Deviled Eggs are straight out of the 50’s – but since I am in my 50’s I must admit to loving deviled eggs. These are perfect for a Holiday Party.
They are simple, easy to make and wonderful. I top some with red caviar, some with black caviar, and I leave some just plain. I like the combination of colors on the platter.
I promise you your guest won’t laugh at you – they’ll be too busy eating!
Celebrating in style is the only way to do it. So when you are going to include cheese in your celebrations, there is no better way to do it than with cheeses that are viewed as the kings and queens of the cheese world. Nowhere else are there more “royal” cheeses produced than France where their royalty, both lactic and human, have been legendary for centuries. So in the spirit of celebrating, we are featuring French cheeses that were not only the favorites of royals but also will make your celebrations “fit for a king.”
Epoisses is so complex and creamy that once you taste it you will not forget it. But be careful it might just run across the table! Cornilly is a prime example of what a fine goat’s milk cheese should be; soft and mild when young and then slightly harder and stronger as it ages. Comte is one of the oldest and most respected cheeses in France. Made in huge wheels, this cheese is perhaps the distinguished Patriarch of the French cheese family. Wait for the layers of flavor that just keep coming. Bleu de Basque is a one of a kind blue that will leave you speechless thanks to it’s nutty, sharp flavor that goes on and on.
Yum – we just received the bagels and they are already being devoured! I am trying plain today – and my husband stopped in for lunch and enjoyed one too! So far, very delicious! They arrived very fresh and cool. What an East Coast dream I am enjoying on the West Coast today! - Desiree Santa Fe Springs, CA
Dear Stanley, We received the bagels from you last week, and I am writing to thank you and tell you that I believe that they are perfect. Not too big like those at Essa Bagel, and not too small like some of the pretenders that are out there. Of course, they must be sliced and then toasted and your bagels provided the perfect runway for a variety of foods. My family and I really appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness. We are now big fans of Zabar's. Any chance you would ever open a store in Westchester ? Best wishes to you and your family for the holiday season and new year ahead. Herb
We couldn't agree more with Taryn Cox's assessment of Zabar's Rugelach on THE WIFE. Thanks for reviewing one of our favorites!
I was at a family friends house yesterday helping them celebrate Hanukkah, when I bit into some of the most delicious mouth watering Cinnamony Rugelach goodness! It tasted like a mini Cinnabon Cinnamon Roll but smaller and much much better. After helping myself to about 5, I begged the hostess for the information. Turns out they were shipped as a gift from Zabars in New York! So if any of you WIVES out there need a housewarming Hanukkah present I highly recommend sending these! There Kosher and there only $8.98... Although I'd send 2, They'll go quickly!
